About Me

My name is Martina Vaneckova (Vaněčková), and I am a registered psychologist and owner at Growth and Healing Psychology in Calgary, AB. As you might see from my last name, I am an immigrant to Canada. I came here with my family in 2004 from Slovakia. In addition to this major move, I lived as expat in the U.K. and South Korea. Therefore, I know well how difficult it is to go through different life changes and transitions, may they be positive or negative.

These rich cultural experiences help me see what we have in common as people and where we differ thanks to systems we grew up in and continue to live in, languages we speak, identities we hold, regions we reside in and so on. Due to my cultural awareness and sensitivity, I see my clients as unique individuals with unique stories who require individualized approach.

In my work with clients, I lean on existentialism and holism to help me see what are some common themes for us as humans yet what is unique to each individual's personal system to restore its balance. Therefore, I work from an integrative approach of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Systems Therapy and Mindfulness. With these approaches, we get you the skills, strategies, and tips to alleviate your struggles and help you learn new ways of coping and navigating life's demands.

My Mission is to help you find your inner and outer harmony for more enjoyable life and relationships.

Besides being a travel and cultural enthusiast, you might see me in my free time admiring nature on my nature walks or mountain hikes, exploring new restaurants and cafes with friends, reading a good book or two or doing some yoga or dance.
